This week I was blessed to be able to attend Scentsy Convention. I was really hoping to take away some awesome business building ideas. They gave plenty, but what surprised me most was what I learned about evangelism.
First, our wonderful Heidi Thompson shared with us the “Power of One.” Many encouraging stories of how one person made a HUGE difference! (Emily’s Smile Boxes, Operation Beautiful, Operation Gratitude) Scentsy strongly encourages their consultants to want to make a difference in their communities. I love that!! Isn’t that, or shouldn’t that be, the heart of Christian evangelism? Many times we get so discouraged, saying “I can never make a real difference.” When, in reality, everyday we are given the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. We just have to accept that challenge. We have to realize that the people we encounter may not be given an opportunity to accept Christ if we aren’t the one who tells them! WOW! Talk about the chance to save someone’s life!
A second huge take away was from a consultant who encouraged us to “know our story.” When selling and recruiting, we want to be able to tell others what a difference Scentsy has made in our lives. Is this any different than our Christian testimony? Not at all. Do you really know your story? How has knowing Christ changed your life? The consultant told us that the best way to know our story was to write it down. That way you would be more likely to remember it. Read it and update it often. Take a few minutes and pray over your testimony and WRITE IT DOWN!!! Then most importantly….SHARE IT!!!
My final life changing take away was from the perspective of leadership training. We heard from John Maxwell about how to be a good leader, and to train good leaders. My thoughts went to Discipleship and Witnessing Training when he gave us 5 simple steps.
- I do it.
- I do it and you are with me.
- You do it and I am with you.
- You do it.
- You do it and someone else is with you.
Simple enough, right?!?! Lightbulb…I’m terribly uncomfortable witnessing. (I’m actually very introverted.) So, what should I do…find a mentor. How about you?
Scentsy is really an awesome company and they strive to teach their consultants 3 core values: Simplicity, Authenticity, and Generosity. What if, as Christians, we truly applied these same values to our daily lives? What kind of difference could we make? How many people could we impact? How many lives could be changed?
Just a thought-
“Friends, let me go over the Message with you one final time— this Message that I proclaimed and that you made your own; this Message on which you took your stand and by which your life has been saved. (I’m assuming, now, that your belief was the real thing and not a passing fancy, that you’re in this for good and holding fast.) The first thing I did was place before you what was placed so emphatically before me: that the Messiah died for our sins, exactly as Scripture tells it; that he was buried; that he was raised from death on the third day, again exactly as Scripture says” 1 Corinthians 15:1-5 (The Message)
