Getting Healthy in 2014: Oil Pulling

Have you heard of oil pulling recently?  I did, and I was VERY intrigued.  Apparently the practice has been around for thousands of years, and is great for oral health.  I was blessed with a family history of oral health issues, so I’m willing to give it a go.

Read a little more about oil pulling here and here.

Just before Christmas, Tropical Traditions was giving away the 32oz jar of Certified Organic Coconut Oil.  Since I had just been reading up on all the benefits of oil pulling, this was an very good way to take the plunge and not be out a lot of $$.

Fast forward to today (since I just got my coconut oil yesterday…long story involving the FedEx shipping delays) and I was FINALLY able to try oil pulling.

Let’s just say, it’s going to take some getting used to.  It’s recommended to swish a tablespoon of oil for 20 minutes.  I’m pretty sure I only achieved five.  The taste wasn’t bad, I had added a couple drops of Spark Naturals Shield Blend to the oil.

First impressions: My mouth feels surprisingly clean. (I don’t know, maybe I was expecting the oily residue to hang around even after brushing.)

What am I looking for out of this practice?  Hopefully a little teeth whitening, but mostly I’m hoping for some healing of my receding gum line.  I’ll definitely update throughout my experience.

Go today and do something healthy for yourself!

Be blessed!
